While a friend was sharing about Luke 5:34-39, where the Lord is teaching that new wine will be poured out into new wine skins, she said that she believed it had an application for the Lord laying a new foundation in the Church as He releases new leaders to take their positions. And that is exactly what the Lord did in the Luke 6:12-16 when He chose the apostles. He then taught them from verses 17-49. He laid a new foundation. The fulfillment of that New Wine, the promise of the Holy Spirit was released in Acts 2:15-21 where Peter proclaimed the following:
“For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams; Even on My bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit And they shall prophesy. ‘And I will grant wonders in the sky above And signs on the earth below, Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. ‘The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood, Before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come. ‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” (Acts 2:15–21, NASB95)
As she was sharing the insights the Lord had given to her, the Spirit of the Lord began to move upon me, and I began to pray in tongues. Everything about the flow of the Spirit and the tongue that was being released was full of joy. In my heart I could sense a celebration; something festive was happening. The Lord was releasing something that was a true blessing. As a result of yielding to the tongue, the interpretation came to me in a vision.
I saw the Jesus in a large room with a group of people. He was smiling lifting His glass of New Wine (representing the Holy Spirit in Luke 6 & Acts 2) that He offered to everyone. “Drink up for there is plenty for all!” He was visiting and greeting everyone as they were seated to make sure they were enjoying themselves.
He gave me a glass of New Wine and asked, “Do you like it? If you do you there is another case of wine in the back that is very special.” It was all New Wine that had been stored for years by the Ancient of Days.
Joy filled my heart as I drank the glass of New Wine that Jesus had offered. He encouraged me again and again to, “Drink up! There is more where that came from!”
While I spoke these words, my friend, who was still on the phone was laughing uncontrollably through the entire phone call.
My friends, this is the covenant, the promise, of the Spirit that He made to all those who will give their lives to Jesus Christ and surrender to Him as Lord. It was made through the death of Jesus Christ and the shedding of His blood on the cross.
Peter went on to say, “For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far off, as the Lord out God shall call to Himself.”
Let us tap into the new wine of the Holy Spirit and drink up…and then drink again and again! Let us be filled with the joy of the Lord and trust Him to pour out salvation and bring the lost to Jesus through us by convicting them of their sins. Hallelujah!
