The Lord, speaking through the prophet Amos, said of the wickedness in Israel, “They hate him who reproves at the gate, and they abhor him who speaks with integrity.”  This definitely describes the era we have entered with the assassination of Charlie Kirk by Tyler Robinson. Hatred for the truth and what is right is the mindset of what we commonly call “the left,” which we can call the lost.  They have lost their way to the point that they hate the truth and those who take a stand for it.  They hate to the extent that they call speaking truth “hate speech” and advocate for the harassment and killing of anyone like Charlie Kirk because they have given themselves over to Satan, who dwells in pulsating wickedness and darkness.

Furthermore, those who justify and celebrate Taylor Robinson’s actions of murder refuse to accept the truth that they, too, are in deep darkness.  Charlie Kirk’s witness and success in the political arena are truly astounding, which is a testimony of the light of Christ shining through him and giving him favor at the highest levels of the United States government.  His lobbying for J.D. Vance to be Vice President, having brokered Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s joining President Trump’s campaign, becoming the Secretary of Health & Human Services, while recruiting hundreds of thousands of young people through his organization, Turning Point USA, is nothing if not miraculous.  From the United States to the United Kingdom, to South Korea and beyond, millions were grieved to hear that an assassin’s bullet removed him from this world, allowing him to be immediately promoted to the presence of the Lord (2 Cor 5:8).  His witness for Jesus Christ is indeed his greatest legacy.  He fought the good fight with faith, courage, boldness, and determination.

We can take great comfort in the words of Jesus who spoke of the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and now of Charlie Kirk, “Now He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all live to Him” (Lk 20:38||Mt 22:32||Mk 12:27).  He stands with those who preceded him in martyrdom and fought the good fight of faith including John the Baptist, Stephen, the apostles James, Peter, Paul as well as the other apostles, except for John, who were martyred on foreign soil preaching the truth of the Gospel to the four-corners of the earth fulfilling Christ’s prophecy, “but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth” (Acts 1:8 NASB95).

The Church must remember these words of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, which reveal that words alone will not defeat spiritual darkness or complete the Great Commission. Preaching of the Gospel must be coupled with the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.  Words were all that Tyler Robinson heard, and those he heard were twisted by the darkness that had already engulfed his heart.  Would he have made different choices if he had experienced and witnessed the miracle-working power of the Holy Spirit?  We will never know.  Christ chose Judas to be one of the twelve; he heard the truth and witnessed countless miracles of the Holy Spirit’s power flowing through Jesus, yet he betrayed Him, leading to His death.  The apostle John testified that “there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books which were written” (Jn 21:25).   What is the point?  The point is that until the power of the Holy Spirit is coupled with the preaching of the Gospel to the lost, we have not done all that we have been called upon to do to reach them.  Jesus said, “If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father” (Jn 10:37-38).  The Holy Spirit wants to flow through us in super-abundance to witness to the world that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and that “there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

We will now turn to Tyler Robinson.  I would submit that the first thing we need to understand is that Tyler Robinson grew up in the Mormon religion, not the Christian faith.  The Mormon religion is a cult, with a belief system based upon the writings of Joseph Smith, who added to and changed the canonized Bible with his own words and beliefs, which he claimed were revelations from an “angel” that was clearly demonic in origin.  The heretical and blasphemous beliefs of the Mormons are entirely contrary to Biblical Christianity.

Their teachings include, but are not limited to, the following:  The belief that the pre-mortal form of Jesus was not God; they deny the concept of the Trinity; they do not hold to the truth that salvation is a free gift of God; they deny that the atonement of Jesus Christ is the basis for salvation; they reject all other churches outside of the Mormon “church”; they believe that those who attain eternal life will become gods; Mormons believe that in addition to the Bible, the Book of Mormon, The Doctrines of the Covenant, and The Pearl of Great Price must be used together to come to an understanding of the truth.[1]  The purpose of this article is not to provide an in-depth look at the Mormon cult, but rather to provide a top-level understanding of the differences between it and genuine Christianity and its contribution to Tyler’s ultimate radicalization.

Mormons preach a false teaching that is not the Gospel.  Joseph Smith claimed to have received revelation from an angel named Moroni, which was nothing more than a demon.  To this, Paul would say, “But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we preached to you, let him be accursed” (Gal 1:8 NASB95).  He is so emphatic concerning this point that he repeats the thought in verse 9.  In short, Mormonism is a deceptive doctrine of demons designed to lead people to hell.  What is troubling is that many of those who claim to be Christian conservatives, or simply conservatives, do not understand this fundamental point.

As of the date of this writing, little is known about Tyler.  Given that he was exposed to the false teachings of Mormonism all of his life, it is safe to say he never had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ, which makes a new life in Him possible.  This includes putting to death the deeds of the flesh through the power of the Holy Spirit (Ro 8:13), the process called sanctification.  In short, his values were not Christian.  At some point, he began to struggle with homosexuality and then started to engage in homosexual sin.  Without coming to the saving knowledge of Christ and being discipled in the Christian faith, knowing nothing of the freedom that is ours through Christ in that Christians have died to sin through His death, burial, and resurrection, Tyler rebelled against the moral teachings of Mormonism that were powerless to set him free from his struggle and his bondage to sin.

If he ever looked to the true Christian Church for a solution to his problems, he had a high probability of running into a dead end.  Many so-called “churches” today have embraced homosexuality, having been deceived by the LGBTQ movement, as a lifestyle because they know nothing of the power of the Holy Spirit to transform a person and bring them out of the darkness of sin, into the freedom that is possible in Christ.  Having left the path of Biblical truth, spiritual darkness has invaded many local churches, and as a result, they have become the first line of Satan’s defense against the Holy Spirit and His machine of revival.  Many mainline denominations agree with the demonic doctrine promoted by the LGBTQ deception and are to be classified as apostate.  To a large extent, the Church has lost its spiritual authority and has avoided preaching the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, resulting in the preaching of a pseudo-gospel, which is no gospel at all (Gal 1:6-7) but is little more than a religious list of dos and don’ts.

The spiritual darkness that pervades many churches across America and the world has come by refusing to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, who the Father and the Son sent (Lk 24:49; Jn 1:33, 14:16, 26, 15:26, 16:7; Acts 2:33).  Once they cut themselves off from He who is the Vine (Jn 15), they lost their ability to know truth, for He is the truth.  Cutting oneself off from the Spirit of Christ brings deception and powerlessness, neither of which can help the lost, the dying, nor the deceived that Tyler represents.

Whatever may have happened to Tyler once he became a college student, the foundation for him becoming radicalized by the deception inherent in the LGBTQ belief system was already in place.  The desert of his barren soul was searching for a place to “fit in.”  I would submit that it is very likely that his anger was already fueled by his homosexual struggles, which is condemned by Mormonism but offers no deliverance from the bondage of sin.  This is serious business.  For conservative pundits to lay the source of the problem at the feet of non-Christian high school teachers or college professors is to miss the foundational and damaging effects of his upbringing in a deceptive cult and his struggle with homosexual sin.

I have seen youth who have been brought up in the Christian faith who have later rejected it.  They were taught the Bible stories, but their faith rested on the wisdom of man, not on the power of God.  Paul rejected the purely intellectual/academic form of Christian teaching alone, telling the Corinthians that he knew that they had to experience the demonstration of the power of the Spirit to lay a proper foundation of Christian faith in them (I Cor 2:4-5).  Sadly, this problem is not unique to Tyler’s generation alone, but affects millions of children, teenagers, and adults in many churches today that have drifted far from the Biblical standard, which is to say they have drifted into deep spiritual darkness.  The Church, having despised her birthright to move in the supernatural power of the Spirit, is unable to properly minister to the lost or the members of His Body.

Much of the modern-day Church has rejected not only the power of the Holy Spirit but the Holy Spirit Himself.  Having done so, the Spirit says that “the Church despises its birthright of moving in power” and that, having done so, many local churches have become nothing more than temples of idols.  This is a far cry from what we see in the Bible and what the 1st-century Church exhibited.  Many denominations and groups of churches are nothing more than facades of true Christianity, which is precisely what Mormonism presents.  However, Mormonism is patently false, and its foundation is demonic in origin.

The intellectual/academic form of Christianity that is devoid of power is also demonic and should be rejected.  Those brought up in this poor form of Christianity know absolutely nothing of the power of, nor the reality of, the Person of the Holy Spirit.  They were never taught that you cannot call a gathering of Christians a “church” where “spiritualized hats” are tipped to the Holy Spirit, but no one in the assembly knows the One who was sent to lead us into all truth, as Christ spoke of Him (Jn 16).  Of interest in this chapter of John is that Jesus said, “They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God” (Jn 16:2).

The demonic has overrun what many call the “Church” because once the Holy Spirit is rejected and His voice remains unheeded, He leaves.  When He does, there cannot be a spiritual void.  The spirit of antichrist, darkness, and deception come in to take over the minds and hearts of those who have rejected the Spirit of truth.  One can observe that many on social media platforms call the behavior of those who identify as members of the LGBTQ movement as being demonic.  Ironically, neither the Church nor conservatives know anything of the power of the Spirit to cast out demons.  We must remember that this supernatural power is a foundational element of the Great Commission:

Mark 16:15–18 (NASB95, emphasis mine)

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. 17 “These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Tyler Robinson is but another example of how the enemy of our souls can grip the mind with hatred and deception, resulting in the murder of the innocent, which, in this case, was Charlie Kirk, a truly tragic loss to the entire Body of Christ.

The time for the Church to repent has come, having cut itself off from the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, who is the Evangelist that the Father and the Son sent to convict the world of sin.  However, the Lord demands yet another essential component:  Each member of His Body must consecrate themselves to the absolute surrender to His will by allowing His Spirit to flow through them in His power, which is demonstrated in His gifts freely given to the Church in I Cor 12 & 14, to a lost and dying world.  This is the meaning of following Christ and being His disciple.  Anything less is demonic, cultish, and the sin of idolatry.

We must realize that not all conservatives are Christian and, therefore, cannot accomplish the Great Commission.  This work is reserved for the followers of Jesus Christ who follow the Holy Spirit and are sensitive to His voice.  As Paul preached, “The kingdom of God does not consist in words, but in power” (1 Cor 4:20 NASB95).  When we have coupled preaching the Gospel together in the demonstration of the Spirit’s power, allowing Him to witness through us, then we are upholding the Biblical standard of ministry that Jesus modeled.  As we unconditionally surrender to His plan, He will multiply our efforts far beyond the work and legacy of Charlie Kirk.
