The degradation of our nation and indeed civilization in the West was foreseen by many years ago. The manifestation of the symptoms of an ungodly society is causing many Christians to be appalled at the notion of choosing between what I will call “Two Evil Sisters”. I am only borrowing from the Lord when He described the two kingdoms of Israel in the north and Judah in the south in Jeremiah 3 and Ezekiel 16.
In this position, we must confront ourselves–as we stare appalled at what we see, it is shattering to realize that we, the Church, are looking at ourselves. America now has two large groups; the “Church” of the apostate and those who lift up the Bible while denying the power it proclaims, standing in rebellion to the Holy Spirit. They are two matching bookends.
Having rejected the power of the Lord, the Holy Spirit, the only power that can confront darkness, America and its Church stand powerless against a menacing evil.
When leadership is lacking in the pulpit, bad leaders abound in a nation and wickedness fills the void. Jesus spoke of us when He said, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men (Matthew 5:13 NASB).” Being trampled under men’s feet speaks of judgment. I would submit that judgment has arrived in the form of leadership not only without a godly foundation, but stands vehemently opposed to Biblical truth, without morals and without ethics. Without Biblical truth, there are no morals or ethics, only bondage, death and decay.
What type of leaders would be suitable for such a nation and those responsible for reaching a nation who ended up turning their back on the Holy Spirit and the proclamations of scripture? They have appeared. For those struggling with the choice before them, I would say that path of the Christian is not a fight for worldly power; it is a fight for righteousness and truth. We are not called to compromise, we are called to stand as a light in the darkness and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
It is time to repent and turn away from our treacherous treatment of the Holy Spirit? If we would only admit our sin and our pride, He would turn, heal us and fight for us.
