During my time at Bible school in New York, a minister shared with us during a chapel saying, “there are no rules in the arena”, referring to the fact that we fight against a viscous enemy, and so the devil is. However, this advice, even though meant for good, is not exactly true.
When we commit ourselves to engaging in the battle that the Lord has called us to, there is but one rule – follow the Holy Spirit. He is The One who leads us into battle, and because the enemy does not play by any rules, we must always stay under the protection of the glory of God, the presence of the Holy Spirit. Presumption is the devil’s playground.
We must follow the Spirit closely, because to meet the enemy on the battlefield without the Holy Spirit’s presence, His power or His gifts, means certain failure if not doom. The Holy Spirit is not fighting for marbles! No! He is fighting for the eternal souls of men, women, teens, boys and girls. We dare not fight our way. We must fight His way with all of the power, i.e. the gifts, He offers us.
There is no protection for us on the battlefield without the Holy Spirit.
